Inspired by a walk along the seaside on a chilly spring day, the Blackpool Cardigan is an elegant and decidedly feminine sweater featuring long puffed sleeves and a close fit. It is worked using one strand of each color held together throughout. The sleeves are worked before the body, then all the pieces are joined and the raglan armholes are shaped with decreases. Short-rows are used to shape the bust.

Yarn Jamieson’s Ultra Lace Weight (50% lambswool, 50% Shetland wool; 212 yd 194 m/7/8 oz 25 g): #106 Mooskit and #339 Clematis, 7 (7, 8, 9, 10, 10, 11) balls each. Yarn distributed by Simply Shetland.

Needles Size 7 (4.5 mm): 16” and 32” circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Size 4 (3.5 mm): 2 dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); stitch holders; cable needle (cn); ten 1/2” buttons; tapestry needle.

Gauge 19 sts and 28 rows = 4” in St st with 1 strand of each color held tog (see Notes) on larger needle.

NOTES

• This cardigan is worked seamlessly from the bottom up, beginning with the sleeves. Each sleeve is worked separately in the round to the underarm, then stitches are transferred to holders and set aside. The body is worked from the lower edge to the underarm, with short-row shaping in the bust area. The sleeves are joined with the body and raglan decreases are worked to the top. Short-rows are used to shape the neckline. Double-knit bands are added to the fronts. Band stitches are joined with neckline stitches and bound off using an I-cord bind-off.

• When working flat, always slip the first stitch and purl the last stitch. Slip stitches purlwise with yarn in back except where indicated otherwise.

• Work with one strand of each color held together throughout.

• A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.
