Blackrock Castle is a 16th century castle located outside the city of Cork, Ireland. It is situated on the banks of the River Lee. It was built in 1600 when the citizens of Cork requested that Queen Elizabeth I build a fort to repel pirates and other invaders. It currently functions as an observatory, with a visitors center and restaurant.

Looking at photos of this castle brings to mind brisk winds and lovely maidens looking our from the walls or tower down the banks of the quiet river. To keep herself warm, she would need hats, mitts and something for her shoulders and neck. This was my inspiration for the Blackrock Castle set.

Pattern is written with adjustments for three lengths.
