Blackwork-Style Squares
Do you love the style of blackwork embroidery? Now you can incorporate that look into interlocking filet crochet with these six interlocking filet crochet squares.
This tutorial will teach you how to read the six included charts, with varying levels of difficulty, so you can practice as much as you want. Make one square, edged with one of the included borders, for a decorative hot pad; or make many squares to sew together and create a beautiful afghan!
The sample squares were created using Hobbii Winter Glow combined with Hobbii Amigo and a 3.5 mm crochet hook, but you can use any yarn and appropriate hook of your choice.
Download the pattern, then follow along on my YouTube channel to watch: Blackwork Embroidery to Interlocking Filet Crochet.
If you haven’t tried interlocking crochet with diagonals yet, I recommend watching my YouTube tutorial, Interlocking Filet Mesh: From Start to Diagonals, as a pre-requisite.
With your new skill, you will be able to translate the many amazing blackwork embroidery charts available to purchase, or even one of your own design, offering endless creative possibilities. Enjoy!
This tutorial is written in U.S. terms with additional terms created to define the various diagonal stitches.
