Blair cardigan
No need to match gauge, crochet your own cardigan with ANY YARN WEIGHT because the excel calculator will do all the counting~~
skill level: advanced beginner
Say hello to Blair!
she is going to be the “it” classic round neck cardigan slash shirt that will accompany you for the whole fall winter and spring~
I am always obsessed with the classy tweed jacket looks from the oh so famous high fashion brand, Chanel.
As I couldn’t afford it, I thought, why not crocheting it!
My first attempt to recreate the tweed look ends me up with Giada cardigan
(check out my OG cardigan, Giada cardigan: )
and after almost a year, now I am back with another tweed inspired cardigan, THE BLAIR CARDIGAN.
Construction wise, Blair is actually more simple and cohesive than Giada (hehe talking about some major improvement on constrction method)
As some of you might know already, I hate weaving ends, that’s why most of my design will have continuous panels design which means less cutting yarn and less ends to weave wohoo!
In contrast with Giada where you need to figure out the number of stitches and rows, Blair cardigan is equipped with excel calculator
that will help you calculate the number of FC and rows based on your own measurements. on top of that, same with all of my other pattern, YOU DON’T NEED TO MATCH MY GAUGE,
you can always choose any type and yarn weight you like~ In contrast with Giada where you need to figure out the number of stitches and rows, Blair cardigan is equipped with excel calculator
that will help you calculate the number of FC and rows based on your own measurements. On top of that, same with all of my other pattern, YOU DON’T NEED TO MATCH MY GAUGE,
you can always choose any type and yarn weight you like~ (I have wrote some recommendation on yarn type too)
p.s: I know some might say that my written pattern looks so intimidating because of the oh so many pages
and the supplementary excel spreadsheet. But don’t worry, this long pdf file means there are tons of
step by step picture and diagrams to help you get through it.
++ with the excel spreadsheet, you won’t need to do math, the excel will do it for you
(because I know, I am not the only one who hate math, and I am not the only one who are just too lazy to match gauge).

Materials & tools needed:
• Any COTTON BLEND / ACRYLIC BLEND YARN / ACRYLIC YARN / WOOL YARN (#1 Fingering weight yarn / #2 Sport weight yarn / #3 DK weight yarn / #4 Aran weight yarn)
(Heavier weight yarn will create larger grid, lighter weight yarn will create smaller grid)
• Respective crochet hook for any weight yarn that you choose and one size larger hook.
• Scissors
• Stitch markers
• Measuring tape / ruler
Yarn recommendation:
- Kind reminder: mohair, alpaca or other type of fuzzy yarn is not recommended for beginners as it will be hard to work on the ribbing. Would suggest beginners crocheters to use with acrylic blend or cotton blend #3 DK yarn.
- For this cardigan: cotton blend, wool, acrylic or acrylic yarn works better than pure cotton yarn.
- DO NOT USE #3 DK or #4 ARAN weight pure cotton yarn (it will be too heavy). #1 fingering weight or #2 sport weight cotton yarn is still fine, but the result will be heavier than acrylic yarn.
Based on my measurement (for a long sleeve collared cardigan, bust 81 cm, cardigan height 34 cm), I used a total 350 g of #3 DK weight acrylic blend yarn – 4 ply milk cotton yarn. Approximately 200g in maroon, 150g in beige color.
My testers (ranging from bust circumference 65 cm - 102 cm) used approximately: 900 - 2500 m of yarn
(depends on the yarn weight, bust size, and the sleeve length. I put the detailed info on how much yarn does each testers used in the lookbook)
Crochet hook reference: I used 4.00mm hook for FC, 3.50 mm hook for everything else.
