These mittens are knit from the cuff up, in the round (with the exception of the thumb, which is knitted flat). After the cuff, the shape widens out to the thumb where the palm and back of hand are put on holders while the thumb is knit flat. When going back to the hand section, the thumb is attached in-line, making a comfy transition. The end is tapered with a few decrease rows at the fingertips.

The finishing work is weaving in ends and sewing a small bit of seam down the thumb. The pictures show the middle of this seam being left open, so you can pop your thumb out to use your phone, but you can make that gap any size or close up the whole seam. Instructions are included.

This base mitten pattern can easily be made stripey by switching yarns at your preferred intervals. It’s a great stash cleanup project, that way!

(To knit in the round using the magic loop method) US Size 4 circular needles, 24 inches from tip to tip

NOTE: To adjust finished dimensions, both the thumb and hand sections have a portion of straight knitting without increases or decreases - these are good areas to add or remove rows and make those sections shorter or longer.
