Gaillardia aristata, known as Blanketflower or Firewheel, is a brightly coloured cheerful flower found throughout southern Alberta. The name Blanketflower may have come from its resemblance to the brightly patterned blankets made by local Indigenous people, or it may have come from the way that this colourful flower blankets the ground wherever it spreads.
