Like the small gossamer-winged butterflies—Bläuling is the German name—these delicate fingerless mitts seem unobtrusive at first glance but a closer look reveals their subtle elegance and beauty. Also, given the endless possibilities of yarn choice and embellishment, they have the potential to reach a similar level of diversity as the large Lycaenidae family after which they are named! ☺
Bläuling is a quick little project for a tiny skein of treasured luxury yarn or a nice little something made from a remnant of your favorite sock yarn. They are knit in one piece: no seams and no picking-up stitches necessary. Lovers of fancy knitting may like to embellish them with beads.

Needles set of 2.5 mm (U.S. 1.5) double pointed needles (3.0 mm (U.S. 2.5) for fingering weight), for a loose CO: one 4.5 mm and one 3.5 mm needle. Adjust needle size to get gauge.

Gauge laceweight: 33 sts = 10 cm (4 inches); fingering: 27 sts = 10 cm (4 inches) in leaf body pattern after blocking lightly.
