The Blawl blanket or shawl is the ideal gift or travel project as the middle section is fairly mindless to knit. The lace border adds interest, and doesn’t take long. Worked in the round from the centre out, it is easily customized for size or gauge. It can be worn as a shawl, or tucked in around a sweet baby. Chose complimentary colours for the stripes and a bold contrast for the lace, as shown, or do the lace to match.

It is entirely possible to make Blawl in any weight yarn, from lace weight for a lighter shawl to chunky for a cozy blanket. The striped section can be worked to the size desired, and the stitch count required for the lace border is included below. The stitch counts used in the pattern are for fingering weight yarn. The fingering weight version shown (pink, brown and blue) measures 45” along each side of the square.
