Blight
Blight is an original triangular lace shawl, knit from the center top down to the bottom edges.
4/17/2013 Update There are now 2 pdf patterns of Blight available to download:
BLIGHT.pdf includes easy-to-read charts. Experience with knitting from charts is necessary.
BLIGHTwritten.pdf includes easy-to-read charts, full written instructions, and line by line stitch counts. No experience with charts is necessary, and this version has everything you need if you would like to learn to knit from charts.
Blight uses one skein of fingering weight yarn, but is easily made larger by working more repeats of Chart B (additional yarn will be necessary).
The size can also be increased by changing needle/yarn size. Using a needle at least 2 sizes larger than what is suggested for your yarn of choice will give your lace room to expand. The larger needle you use, the lacier the effect after blocking.
The sample photographed measured 24” x 60” (relaxed after blocking), and used 84 grams of one 100g/400m/437yd skein of fingering weight yarn.
Materials:
100g/437yds (400m) fingering weight yarn
US 6 (4 mm) 32” circular needles
Stitch markers (optional)
Tapestry needle
Blocking supplies
Gauge: Sample is 14 rows x 14 stitches in Chart B lace pattern = 2.5” after blocking.
Finished Measurements: approximately 24” x 60” (61cm x 152.5cm) relaxed after blocking
Inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Blight
Give me truths,
For I am weary of the surfaces,
And die of inanition.
