Block Versus Stripes
This pattern was designed for the Dutch crochet magazin AanDeHaak. Their original question was a beach towel, since time was short I made a small version (7 squares) and even smaller for the instruction images (3 squares).
Then I moved to another town, not far from the sea - 20 minutes walk from where I live. A good motivation to make a beach towel size version (17 squares).
For my projects I used several brands of 8/4 cotton, but it can be made with any yarn you’d like.
It’s made with the carreaux crochet technique where you build up a double layered patch row by row. It might be challenging when you start, but this pattern consists of seven repeating rows. Once you’ve got the first (couple of) color sequence(s) it will get easier.
This pattern can be made with two colors, in which case you only have four ends to weave in for a potholder size patch. Or you can use new colors for every color sequence.
Beach towel, blanket, potholder, baby wipe, washcloth … you name it, you make it!
