Blockchain beanie
My blockchain mitts now have a matching hat! Blockchain beanie uses an easy slip stitch pattern to create an attractive texture and pattern which works with both hand-dyed and commercial yarns.
Gauge: 28 st in 10 cm/4 inches in pattern on your larger needles before blocking. Stitch gauge is more important than row gauge as length is easily ajusted. Differences in gauge will affect the size of the finished hat and your yarn usage.
Sizing: M (L) to suit head circumference approx. 56 -58 (61-63) cm/22-23 (24-25) inches. Height: M (L): approx. 22 (24) cm/8.75 (9.5) inches. The sample is size M, blocked on a balloon to the same size as the model’s head.
Needle sizes: 3.75 mm (US 5) for body of hat (or size required to obtain gauge) and a needle one or two sizes smaller for the brim, depending on preferred ease. Note: the hat has a relaxed fit with plenty of stretch. If you prefer a tighter brim, use a needle two sizes smaller than the main needle for the ribbing. Needle size is a recommendation and you may need to change needle size to meet gauge. You can use a short circular, a long circular using magic loop or on dpns. If using a short circular, you will need to swap to dpns or magic loop as you work the crown.
Yarn: 145 - 175 m/ 160 - 195 yards of dk weight yarn approx 230 m per 115 g/250 yards per 4 oz. Yarn estimates include a 10% safety margin.
Other supplies: Yarn needle, one stitch marker, tape measure, balloon for blocking (optional).
