This design is worked top down with no sewing. The hat is designed to have a little negative ease to keep it in place. It has a frilly brim option & a straight brim option for you to choose from & there are 5 sizes from toddler/preschooler through to large adult.

The pattern has been thoroughly tested by a large group of fabulous testers who have tested every size to ensure accuracy & clarity. As well as the written pattern, I have added photos & videos in case you need any clarification or come across stitches that are new to you. It’s really important to me that you have a pattern you love. Please reach out to me if you have any issues.

Skill level: Adventurous beginner/intermediate

Materials required:

149 - 241 yards of #3 weight dk /light worsted cotton yarn in as many colours as you like.
I used Hobbii Rainbow 8/6 for the child hat & James C Brett It’s Pure 100% Pure Cotton for the adult hat.
3mm crochet hook (or hook to obtain gauge)
Tapestry needle & scissors
Stitch markers

Construction:

This hat is constructed from the top down in right side rounds. The top is created first, then the squares are crocheted for the sides. These are then slip stitched together & then slip stitched as one piece to the top. Finally the brim is crocheted directly onto the bottom in the round. There is a frilly brim option & a straight brim option for you to choose from.

Gauge:

With a 3mm hook (or hook size to obtain gauge) the small granny square under “Creating your Swatch” in pattern measures 4” by 4”
