Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary is a squared-off extreme crescent (try finding that in the attributes listing), that easily hugs one’s neck and shoulders. It is a little bigger than a shawlette, but will never be confused with a huge, body-enclosing shawl. And it features stitch patterns that look as good on the reverse as on the front - including the cable! - so you never have to worry about how it’s sitting.
Check your gauge in unblocked garter stitch (23 sts and 56 rows to 4”), and then pull out the swatch. The edging consumes more yarn than you think it will, so you will need every last inch of the contrast color.
The colors pictured and named in the pattern were used to make this truly a Bloody Mary, with a rich tomato body and Worcestershire-sprinkled celery stalk edge. Feel free to make your shawl in your favorite colors!
