This pattern is designed to be a first experience with making a steeked project without the drama involved with cutting up months’ worth of work.

The finished sweater will fit an American Girl, Madame Alexander Play Doll, Tonner My Imagination, My Sibling/My Pal or other soft-bodied doll in the 18” range. The finished chest measurement of sweater is about 13”. Sleeve length can be adjusted, and suggestions for how to do this are in the pattern.

This is the “plus-size” version of Vroni’s Lavender Fields, which is designed for a slimmer doll, such as Götz Hannah, Happy Kidz or Classic Kidz, and in different colors. (The colors are interchangeable between the two patterns, or you can pick out your own. You can also substitute different motifs.)

This sweater can be worn with the buttons in front as a cardigan or with the buttons in back as a pullover. For the sake of simplicity, the instructions are written as if it were a cardigan, so front/back and right/left will be as they would be for a cardigan.

There is a line-by-line listing of the colors used. There are two charts: One chart is for the entire body. The other chart is for one sleeve. (Both sleeves are the same.) The charts may be printed off, back-to-back, on a different sheet of paper, to make it easier to compare with the list of colors used.

For needles, two 24” circulars, dpns or Magic Loop will work.

The method for stabilizing the steeks is machine sewing. Another method may be substituted if desired.

This is a good project for using up scraps of 4-ply, fingering-weight or sock yarn. It takes 33g of solid-color yarn for ribbing and background, or 13g of ribbing and 20g of background, if different. About 60” of yarn is needed to complete a body round if all the sts are knit in the same color.
