ABOUT
The term “blue hour“ originally derives from the field of (architecture-) photography and refers to the natural cool light temperature shortly after sunset.

“The Blue Hour“ is also the name of a much loved Suede album. Its blue sleeve design shows a chainlink fence in a wasteland landscape. This picture and the track “Beyond The Outskirts“ remind me much of growing up in the industrial Ruhr area and therefore inspired me to create this scarf.

This design is perfect to display the beauty of yarns with long and soft gradients. The techniques used create sort of a woven/bouclé look with an extraordinaryly nice drape. The fact that the scarf is knitted sideways makes the colour shifts appear like a play of light and shadow.

The pattern count is easy to remember, yet demands enough attention to keep you entertained.

Description
Blue Hour Scarf is knitted sideways which is a concept to display the multicoloured gradient yarn on a contrasting background. The pattern uses long twisted slip-stitches that spread over stripes of seed stitch to create the impression of floating diamonds.

Dimensions
The finished scarf measures (tip to tip) about 245 cm x 38 cm / 96.5“ x 15“ after washing and blocking.

Gauge
18 sts x 34 rows = 10 cm / 4“ in the pattern.
For a scarf, the gauge is not really important so don’t worry if you don’t meet the exact numbers.

3,75 mm / US 5 circular needle in 120 cm / 47“ length

Notions
Tapestry needle, cable needle (optional)

Garter stitch, slip-stitches, simple cables, seed stitch, icord edge
