The pattern was initially written for sport weight or thicker yarn. Later, I decided to add a wider, 60-st. version. That second version can be knitted with fingering-weight yarns.
The very tip of the bird’s tail can be knitted black, or embroidered with duplicate stitch later, there’s just a few stitches.
The pattern is in pictorial form with very clear, full-color charts for both hands and thumbs; there is no written instructions.
