This adult colorwork hat is inspired by the traditions of handwork in my home of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As we recover from Hurricane Helene (September 2024), I heard stories from neighbors about quilt makers and craftsmen in our valley and beyond. It heartened me to hear people talk about fiber artists long passed, reassuring me that our work is an important part of the fabric of these mountains. As the flood waters receded, I was heart broken to see Asheville’s River Arts district, and The Local Cloth, our local non-profit collective of Fiber Artists and Farmers, were completely destroyed. This hat is sold as a tribute and a financial benefit to them, and their resident artists, who desperately need our help at this time. I hope you’ll make a hat for yourself, make a few to donate to local charities, or loved ones.

This hat is a large hat, if you’d like a more snug fit, consider decreasing needle size or using DK weight yarn instead.
