This is the first crochet pattern I’ve written. Although I’ve crocheted for many years, I’m a knitter first and have only written knit patterns previously.

Blue Sky was written as the crochet companion to Sunny Day, a knit pattern designed for the April Hat-A-Long for the Hats for Sailors group here on Ravelry. Each year HFS members, and friends, knit and crochet 100% superwash wool hats to be distributed to all personnel on selected Navy or Coast Guard vessels in time for the winter holidays. (Different vessels are selected each year.) It’s our way of saying thank you to the wonderful men and women who so ably serve our country.

Blue Sky is a quick project, requiring a variety of simple crochet stitches. Links to video tutorials are included for those not familiar with back post crochet or the cluster stitch.

You can whip up a couple in no time at all. Make one for yourself, and another for a gift or to donate to your favorite charity.
