Surely there is some magic in how bubbles are created. Different types of bubbles can be found everywhere: bubbles form when it rains, in a glass of water or fizzy drink, and in boiling water. Reminiscent of bubbles on the surf, this is the shawl you’ll wear well into the summer. Let’s add a little magic in knitting with catchy chains of bubbles.

The shawl is worked sideways, in one piece, starting from the lace point, with borders knitted as you go. There is minimal finishing, no picking up stitches, and the length can be adjusted easily to suit your taste. The lace pattern needs attention as it is worked on both right side and wrong side rows. Choose fingering or sport weight yarn in a natural fibre – wool, silk, linen or cotton – for crisp blocking and best results. Go down in needle size when using fingering yarn (needles 3.5 mm / 4 US).
