Bluebell Hills Sweater
This striking sweater was inspired by the beautiful woods near one of us Munro sisters that lives in Surrey, England, where the bluebells are particularly spectacular in the spring. The sweater’s fair isle detail is meant to mimic the shape of the bluebell flower and how they look as a sea of flowers along the forest floor. This fair isle is worked for part of the yoke and there is also a narrow band of fair isle above the ribbing of the cuffs and bottom waste body ribbing.
The sweater is worked in the round with 3.5mm (4US) needles from the bottom up. The body and two sleeves are worked separately in the round until the yoke top (shoulders) where the three pieces are all placed on the same circular need to work in the round with gradual decreases up to the neck band ribbing.
The pattern includes instructions for five sizes: X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large. The corresponding blocked bust measurements for these sizes are 33” 36.5”, 40.5”, 44”, and 48.5”.
The sample is knit with sport weight alpaca, Drops Alpaca. Each ball is 50 grams/167meters (183 yards). The amount of yarn required is:
o 7 (7, 8, 8, 9) balls of Light Grey Mix (0506) (colour A)
o 1 ball of Navy/Purple (colour B)
However there are endless other potential great colour combinations and other types of yarn that would suite this pattern! Other sport weight yarn would also be suitable.
The pattern includes a chart for the fair isle of the sweater.
Hope you enjoy the pattern! Happy knitting!
