Keep your newborn’s little fingers warm (and their face scratch-free) with these tiny mitts! To keep them on their busy hands, you’ll knit a bobble into the fabric to act as a hazard-free button.

Weighing in at less than 15 grams of (wool or acrylic) yarn for both mitts, this quick project is a great stash-buster, too!

There are two versions of this pattern: fingertips-down and cuff-up. The former is written for both mitts to be knitted at once starting with Judy’s Magic Cast-On (and can be adapted for double-pointed needles and/or individual knitting). The latter is written for the mitts to be knitted individually and finished with kitchener stitch (and can be adapted for double-pointed needles).

Materials

  • US size 8 (5.0mm) circular needle, ideally 32” (81cm) or longer
  • 15 grams worsted weight yarn, wound into a center-pull ball (you may also use two separate balls)
  • Crochet hook for weaving in ends
  • Cuff-up version: Tapestry needle for kitchener stitch

Finished dimensions

  • Length: 3.25” (8cm)
  • Circumference at hand: 4.5” (11cm)
  • Circumference at wrist (buttoned at first buttonhole): 3.5” (9cm)
