A quick and cosy knit, these mittens feature a row of pretty bobbles above a twisted rib cuff. They would make a perfect gift knit for special friends and family. The simplicity of the design lends itself to showing off the colours in variegated and speckled yarns.
SKILLS REQUIRED: working in the round on a small circumference using DPNs, casting on stitches, knit, purl, working through back loop, knitting a bobble, k2tog/k3tog/ssk decreases, M1L/M1R/yo increases, picking up stitches, grafting using Kitchener stitch.
Suitable for advanced beginner/intermediate knitters.
SIZING
Pattern includes 6 sizes - Toddler (Child S, Child M)(Child L/Adult S, Adult M, Adult L)
To fit hand circumference: 5(6,6.5)(7,7.5,8)“/13(15,16.5)(18,19,20.5)cm
TENSION/GAUGE
4”/10cm = 18 sts and 26 rows over stocking stitch on 4.5mm needles
YARN
You will need approximately 88(110,137)(170,191,219)yds/ 80(100,125)(155,175,200)m of Aran weight yarn.
The larger blue/turquoise mitts are knitted in size 4, with a little extra length added to hand and thumb, using Third Vault Yarns ‘Space Aran’ (100% Superwash Merino; 181yds/166m per 100g) in their beautiful ‘Osidisen’ colourway.
The smaller pink/red mitts are knitted in size 2, again with a little extra length, using Madrigal yarns Aran weight yarn (100% pure Merino wool; 181yds/166m per 100g) in their stunning ‘Magillion’ colourway.
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
- 4.5mm set of DPNs (or size to give correct tension)
- 4mm set of DPNs (or 1 size smaller than larger DPNs)
