Bobbledygook Shawl
Yarn
• 675–900 yards of DK weight yarn depending upon how many border rows you work.
• Colors used in the sample:
o Bad Sheep Yarn’s Fates, William Wilson, and Kennicott
o Mountaintop Yarn’s Don’t Call Me Sweetie
Gauge & Size
• Gauge is not important for this pattern
• Finished size of sample: 70” wide by 28” deep at center (blocked)
Hook
• 6.0 mm (size J US)
• For use with other weights, use a hook size that is yarn-appropriate and results in the fabric density you prefer.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Notes
• Pattern has been written using US crochet terminology.
• Yarn is not carried along the side at any point.
• This shawl is worked with two methods. First, you’ll create an asymmetrical triangle, increasing one stitch along one edge of each row. Then, once the shawl body with bobbles is complete, you’ll work one last row and rotate your work 90 degrees clockwise to work into the side of the shawl body. At that point you’ll continue the border as a traditional top-down symmetrical triangle, with four increases on each row.
• While the sample was created with DK-weight yarn, this piece can be made with any weight. Just adjust hook size accordingly for a resulting fabric that isn’t too tight/rigid. When using other weights, increase or decrease stitch repeats as needed and desired.
