This slouchy beanie pattern was inspired by the ancient peat boglands of Ireland.For centuries the homes of Ireland have been heated using peat/ turf cut from the local boglands which are scattered throughout the countryside. These ancient boglands are centuries old and were formed from the remnants of old forests, the wood compressed and altered through the years until it forms a hard, dense brown black peat, which is a perfect fuel for country homes. The boglands change color with the seasons, from brown
and black, to pink when covered in heather, to rust and speckled white when the bog cotton is in bloom. This beautiful simple, yet rich and rustic beauty is reflected in the hat design The samples shown are knit in a tweedy Aran yarn in shades of black, brown, green and grey, speckled with cream, black , copper and gold. This lovely warm, comfortable, slouchy hat is an easy knit and looks great on both men and women and is ideal for teenagers. The hat has a garter stitch brim and simple stocking stitch body. The hat is casual , comfortable, stylish, warm and versatile, suitable for all occasions. It will become a firm favourite for seasons to come.

Yarn: Worsted/ Aran/ Medium weight yarn -Weight 4 , 100g /3.5oz./215 yards/196 metres

Needles : The hat is knit on circular needles and finished with double-pointed needles. The pattern to knit this hat on straight needles is also for sale in the shop.
Sizes 4.5 mm/ US Size 7 and 5 mm / US Size 8 circular needles measuring 60 cm /24 inches long.
Size 5 mm/ US Size 8 double-pointed needles- or sizes needed to obtain gauge/tension.

Tension/Gauge: 16 sts over 24 rows in Stockinette/Stocking Stitch on Size 5mm/US Size 8 needles = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm)
