This sock design is a nod to Joss Whedon’s great television series “Firefly” and the subsequent movie “Serenity”.

Gingham for Kaylee’s country dress the first time she came on the ship and took an unorthodox approach to getting a look at the engines. Diamonds, which are shiny. A river, for River. Fireflies, for the class of ship. And, of course, the Mandarin symbol for Serenity itself.

This is a Guernsey/gansey pattern sampler sock worked from the cuff down. As written, if you start the heel when instructed, the sock will have a 6” leg, not including the cuff length. Adjustments can be made to lengthen or shorten the sock.

Medium: foot diameter 8-9 in, 64 stitches
The nature of a Guernsey sock is that they run a little looser. If you usually wear 66-70 sts circumference socks, this pattern should fit you as written. Testers that usually wear either a medium or large size sock were able to fit the sock as written.
