The Bolo Slipover is a super fun, instant gratification quick knit for times when you are itching to cast something on, but are not willing to commit months to a new project (which also makes it a great gift knit)!

The main fabric of the slipover is layered with a rhythmic slip stitch lattice, that works wonders to show off the colour change of the contrast yarn. The garment is worked from the top down. First, the back yoke is worked flat, then shoulders are picked up and worked from the top edge. The shoulders are joined to create the front yoke; front and back yokes are then joined to work the body in the round. The split hem, neck edge, and armhole edges are finally worked in 1x1 rib.

Tips On Choosing Yarn

Main Colour Yarn (MC) Rowan Big Wool is a plump, full yarn that is difficult to replace. I have tried other yarns with the exact same composition and meterage, but failed to achieve stitch gauge. A smaller stitch gauge results in elongated lattices that (in my opinion) doesn’t look as nice.

If you can’t find a yarn that suits the gauge, try to achieve the same gauge ratio by using smaller needles, and calculate what size pattern to use accordingly. Alternatively, try combining different yarns to achieve pattern gauge. For example, for the pink/green/grey sample, I held four strands of Wool Dreamers Machelopis with a strand of Drops Kid Silk.

Contrast Colour Yarn (CC) This pattern is designed to be knitted with Spincycle Yarns Plump as the contrast colour. If you 
are unfamiliar with Spincycle Yarns, they create beautiful yarns that are hand—dyed in 
the fibre, then spun and plied to create a hand-spun look, known for their unique colours shifts 
though the length of each skein.

If you would like to use another yarn in place of Spincycle Yarns Plump, hand-spun yarns or gradient yarns (like Lang Yarns Cloud) would be a good alternative. That said, you could also choose to use a solid colour yarn, emphasizing the lattice pattern rather than the colour change.

Gauge:
10 sts x 24 rows = 10 cm (4”) in lattice slip-stitch pattern in the round, on 10 mm (US 15) needles, after blocking

Suggested Needles:
10 mm (US 15) & 8 mm (US 11) / 60, 80, 100, or 150 cm (24, 32, 40, or 60 “) circular needles, depending on garment circumference, for body and hem ribbing;
and
8 mm (US 11) / 40 & 60 cm (16 & 24”) circular needles for neck and armhole ribbing
Or use needle sizes that obtain gauge
