Bombadil Socks
A top-down, textured sock inspired by Tolkien’s character Tom Bombadil.
Skill Level: Intermediate; the sock includes basic top-down construction featuring a heel flap, short-row heel turn, and wedge toe; major cabling, textured stitches, and lots of charts. The ability to read a knitting chart is a must, although all symbols are clearly defined.
Materials: 1 set of US1 (2.25mm) sock needles (either DPN or Magic Loop), a cable needle (or the ability to cable up to 7 stitches without a needle), basic knitting gear such as a tape measure & scissors.
Yarn: Directions are for a solid color sock, for which I recommend between 375-400 yds. (340-365 m.) of fingering weight yarn. There are also directions for a version with the cuff, heel, and toe in a contrasting color. For this version, I recommend the same total yardage (or meterage), but divided between a main and a contrasting color.
Three sizes are available, each with its own set of charts. Ankle circumference is 7.5 (8.5, 9.5) inches or 19 (21.5, 24) cms. Calf and foot length are adjustable within the pattern.
Many thanks to my glorious testers: TinyThread, Miissy, kcatt79, nicky263, lanouchette, siro2, kirky, tww2005, & lifen. You are much appreciated.
