Welcome to the Sock Knitters Anonymous March 2020 Mystery Sock KnitAlong! I am so excited to be here with you all, and really hope you decide to join me. These socks will be knit top-down with a heel-flap and gussets and use increases, decreases and twisted stitches to make your self-striping yarn a little more than just stripey. I will be releasing a total of FOUR (4) clues through the month of March 2020; the release plan is as follows:
Clue 1 – Sunday March 1st
Clue 2 – Sunday March 8th
Clue 3 – Sunday March 15th
Clue 4 – Sunday March 22nd
SIZES
XSmall (Small, Medium, Large) corresponding to a leg circumference of approximately 17.5cm (19cm, 21.5cm,24cm)/6.5” (7.5”,8.5”,9.5”) unstretched and a foot circumference of approximately 15.25cm (17.75cm, 20.5cm,21.5cm)/6” (7”,8”,9”) unstretched.
A note on the sizing: the words “XSmall”, “Small”, “Medium” and “Large” refer to the fit of the sock around the leg or foot. The fabric of this sock is quite elastic, so if you have any doubts about sizing, I suggest that you choose the smaller of the two sizes.
MATERIALS
• 370 – 415m (400-450 yds) fingering weight/sock yarn (Main Colour - MC).
• If you want to knit solid cuffs and toes, then you will need approximately 20g (80m/85yds) of solid yarn (Contrasting Colour - CC) that goes well with the striped yarn and will thus need 80m/85yds less of the stripey skein (MC). I knit these socks in the Yarn Badger SW Merino Sock (approx. 5 rows per stripe at given gauge), with no contrasting yarn.
• Tapestry needle for grafting toe & weaving the ends
• Stitch marker (optional)
A note on yarn choice: If you are knitting this pattern as a part of the March 2020 SKA Mystery Sock competition, then you must use self-striping yarn; contrasting cuffs/heels/toes are acceptable for the Mock. My testers and I found that the pattern is best shown off if all stripes in the yarn are a solid colour.
