For the month of July, you can receive this pattern free from my website handmadebyjoe.co.uk when you purchase any skein of handdyed yarn. Just simply add BOTH the yarn AND the pattern to your cart and use code BOMBORACOWLFREE.

Bombora Cowl is a perfect stash-buster, cleverly designed to use up all the meterage of a regular 100g skein of 4 Ply yarn (400-425m). It takes a simple crochet wave, emphasised by the textured ridges of a htr sl st to create a unique, interesting fabric. Worked sideways and in one piece, Bombora is easily adjustable or adaptable to your chosen measurements so you can get the perfect fit!

It is a super relaxing, mindless project (once you get used to the stitch) which got me through 3 months of GCSE exams! I will be making plenty more!

Skill level: Intermediate
Suggested yarn: Any 400 - 425m skein of 4 Ply yarn is suitable. I used Handmade by Joe BFL 4 Ply.
Tension (main pattern) - not necessary for this pattern, however it’s provided if needed : 28 sts x 24 rows (6 4-row repeats) = 10cm x 10cm
Finished Measurements: approx 28cm wide x 26 cm deep (29cm deep for alt size)
Hooks used: 3.5mm
Terminology: UK
Tips: Make sure to keep the sl sts loose so that you can work into them on the next row.
Abbreviations:
Ch = chain
Sl st = slip stitch
Dc = double crochet (US sc)
Tr = treble (US dc)
Dtr = double treble (US tr)
Htr sl st = half treble slip stitch
Special stitches/techniques:
Double treble (dtr): yo twice, insert hook into st, yo, pull up a loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) 3 times.
Working in the back loop (bl): For each odd row of the pattern (excluding row 1), you will need work into the back loop of each stitch. In standard crochet, you insert your hook through both loops at the top of a st (they create a V-shape), here you only need to work through the back loop of this ‘V’.
Half treble slip stitch (htr slst): yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull through all loops on hook (refer to photo tutorial )
