Bonnet d’homme / Night Cap
Pattern for a men’s night cap, appearing in the Manuel des Demoiselles, first published in 1826 and written by Élizabeth Bayle-Mouillard under the pseudonym “Élizabeth Celnart”. The pattern is worked with a set of five needles from the top down, with four lines of false seaming running down the top of the work. It is knit up as a tube that tapers at each end, and the final product is turned in halfway to serve as a self-lining. There is no gauge given, and the size is determined individually for the intended wearer.
