Boobook Owl
Although it is a common bird, the nocturnal boobook is rarely seen in the daytime. It roosts in thick undergrowth and remains perfectly still and camouflaged so as not to be noticed. Its two-note call sounds a little like ‘mopoke’, hence one of its common names.
