This is a crocheted Celtic knot “square” inspired by the paintings in the Book of Kells. It uses relief stitches, similar to front post stitches, to create a knot-work pattern raised above a background of single crochet.

Update September 2018: This pattern has just been updated to include written instructions and new photo tutorials of the difficult steps, along with full diagrams of the pattern.

The square has also been updated to make the pattern stitch up square. So it now comes in both 8x10 inches (original) and 10 inch square (new) blocks.
