Bookmark for wine lovers
This is a pattern to crochet a bookmark with a geometric design which kind of looks like a stylised wine glass. Make it for yourself or gift it to someone you know loves books! Come to think of it, it doesn’t have to be a wine glass, my husband think it looks like a spanner …. do you know any mechanics?! :-)
You need two colours of crochet thread. I used Anchor Freccia 6. This comes in balls of 50g, you will only need approximately 10g of each colour at most. Helpful tips on increasing/decreasing the length and altering the width are included in the pattern, enabling you to make a matching coaster or table mat with your left over yarn. Or perhaps your friend or family member reads more than one book at a time, you could make up to four more!
An good alternative yarn is Scheepjes Sweet Treat, which comes in smaller balls. Sweet Treat is a little thinner but if you use a smaller hook, you will get good results and your bookmark will be slightly smaller. The fourth photograph is made with Sweet Treat in colours 400 Petrol Blue and 389 Apple Green.
Overlay mosaic technique is used throughout the body of the bookmark. Two colours are alternated, one colour per row, you don’t have to change colours mid-row. A full explanation of how to work overlay mosaic crochet stitches is contained within the pattern but visual learners may wish to familiarise themselves with these two stitches in advance of purchase by viewing them on one of the many videos available on YouTube.
UK:
dc-blo double crochet back loop only
tr-flo treble crochet front loop only
USA:
sc-blo single crochet back loop only
dc-flo double crochet front loop only
The pattern also includes a detailed photo tutorial on how to make the knotted fringe shown on the bookmark. The fringe tidies up all the yarn tails left over at the end of the work so there are no yarn tails to sew in at all.
A chart is provided (with ‘x’s) for experienced crocheters but you do not have to read charts to make this blanket, every row is written out in full as well.
If you are a beginner with a little experience, the technique is easy to learn and I am always available by e-mail to help, just message me.
A typical hook to use is 2mm (B/1). Depending on thickness of your crochet thread, you may have to adjust hook size.
