This is a pattern for Cromwell the kākāpō. If you give him a shake, or walk him about he will make a booming noise.

The kākāpō is a critically endangered flightless bird. Male kākāpō have a low-frequency mating boom that can travel several kilometres.

This pattern combines knitting and technology to create an adorable knitted kākāpō that makes a booming noise when shaken.

The inspiration for this project was from Adafruit’s ‘Chirping Plush Owl Toy’ project. The kit used to create the circuit came from Adafruit (via Nice Gear) and the instructions for creating the circuit were also taken from the Adafruit project.

It is a great project for someone looking to combine knitting with technology.

You will need sock yarn in green, yellow and brown. I used Vintage Purls Sock.
