Boots all summer long
This is the sweater for the last days of summer, when the weather gets colder, but only a bit …
The name of this design was inspired by the main yarn of the sample project, which is “Boots” by Schoppel, a yarn which is not only for socks, but also a good choice for durable sweaters (including a portion of cotton so it’s suitable for all seasons.) Its interesting yarn structure and the color scheme of the sample makes me think of a walk on a beach on a colder summer day, with lots of small tideways which need to be crossed, so you better keep your rubber boots on …
Apart from that, “Boots all summer long” originates from the lyrics of an 1980s song by Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks: https://genius.com/Stevie-nicks-nightbird-lyrics.
The sweater is knitted bottom-up. Its new and unusual construction features circular decreases on the yoke (which are already started on the lower front for a rounded hem) together with wedge increases between underarm and shoulder. This combination creates a rounded neck opening and a slight drop shoulder, underlined by stripes in light waves. Stitches are picked up from the sleeve openings, and the sleeves are added in top-down direction, which makes their length very flexible – and allows you to use up every meter of yarn you have.
It is a good idea to use a different yarn for the contrast color stripes to add visual interest to the sweater.
My own sample has been worked in Stockinette, but will be worn inside out so that the Reverse Stockinette side gets displayed (because the wrong side of the “Boots” yarn look more interesting) – but that’s optional.
Available sizes: S, M, L, XL and XXL with a bust circumference of 86/ 96/ 104/ 112/ 120 cm.
The piece should be worn with no or just a little bit of ease at bust.
