So you have learned how to make a basic pair of socks and want to do more than just a knit stitch? Maybe those lace knitting patterns are a little too intimidation for you just yet …..

These borderland socks are the perfect challenge for a novice knitter, who has gotten the grasp of knitting in the round and basic sock knitting techniques. The pattern is easy and straight forward to follow and you end up a with a pair of socks that are a little more exciting than just plain stockinette stitch. The best part about this pattern is there is it will work with any number of stitches on any size needles so your gauge doesn’t matter.

These socks have been knitted in the round using the magic loop method, but you can you DPN’s if you prefer. The instructions are written for magic loop, so if you are using the double points you will need to think of your first two needles as the first needle and the second two and the last one since magic loop works with one set of circular needles (so you only have two needles). They have also been knitted from the toe up so you will want to learn how to create a closed toe aswell before beginning this pattern. If you don’t already know how to do this I would suggest getting some needles and scrap yarn and find a good instructor on youtube to practice along with.
