Boreal Forest
Get ready for winter with a cozy hat! This cute winter hat features a little forest of trees and a herringbone pattern reminiscent of snowshoe tracks in the snow. The stranding also provides a thicker fabric which is great for keeping warm in northern winters.
This simple colorwork is a fun way to showcase a variegated or ombre yarn against a muted background. This pattern is fun but not too complicated, perfect for both beginner colorwork knitters and more advanced knitters. The colorwork instructions are charted.

Contrasting color: 50 (55, 61, 66) yds (45 (50, 55, 60) m). Sample shown in Lion Brand Amazing, 147 yds (135 m) per 50 g ball, color Glacier Bay.
Pattern updates:
-September 2024: The pattern has been reworked in a plied wool yarn. The original version was designed using a single ply silk-alpaca blend which gave a gauge that seemed to be difficult for other yarns to consistently match. The 2024 rework adjusts the pattern to match a more typical gauge for worsted-weight yarns. The old version is currently still available for those who liked the original but I recommend knitters start by working from the 2024 improved version.
-November 2020: The pattern now includes 4 sizes instead of 2, and sizing is now determined by stitch counts, rather than by adjusting gauge
