Boston Ivy Shawl was originally published in Crochet Now magazine, Issue 20. The pattern has been tweaked a little, updated, and now uses U.S. crochet terminology.

Boston Ivy is a triangular shawl worked from the top center back to the edge. It has no obvious right or wrong side and can be made to any size. The colors of the shawl were inspired by the red and purple hues of autumn foliage and grape berries. The pale blue and white, reminiscent of a transparent sky, were chosen as a canvas.

The pattern uses the simplest crochet stitches: chain, single crochet and half double crochet. These stitches are combined to create the linen stitch, which is a perfect stitch to show off colorwork.

The zig-zag edging adds a fun detail to finish off the shawl.

MATERIALS

• Yarn: Sirdar Country Style; DK; 170 yards / 155m per 50g ball; 40% Nylon, 30% wool, 30% Acrylic
• Hook: 4.5 mm
• Yarn needle to weave in ends

YARDAGE

• 2 balls each in Cherry 402 and Elderberry 639
• 1 ball each in Blue Blush 643, Cream 411 and Summer Blossom 629

FINISHED SIZE
59’’ (150 cm) wingspan, 27½’’ (70 cm) height at center

GAUGE
10 sc x 18 rows = 4’’ (10 cm) measured over st patt
