Botanica Mosaic Afghan
Botanica is another nature-inspired pattern; in fact, it was my original design which inspired The Enchanted Garden.
I’m always conscious of crocheters’ needs. I know that some crocheters prefer designs with separate patterns (such as Enchanted Garden) that can be crocheted in different orders or even used within other patterns.
However, I kept returning to this pattern, which, as you can see, is more intertwined and fully symmetrical. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I decided to go for it. There were a few tweaks along the way, but I love my final design, and it’s an absolute joy to make.
Rest assured, this pattern is designed with beginners in mind – it features simple repeats and no complex stitches, making it a perfect starting point for your crochet journey.
With this pattern, you get two different versions.
- One in normal mosaic crochet, where you use just one colour per row.
- One in tapestry mosaic crochet, where you use more than one colour per row.
Five PDFs are available.
- Normal Overlay Mosaic Crochet in US terms
- Normal Overlay Mosaic Crochet in UK terms
- Mosaic Tapestry Crochet in US Terms.

- A bonus PDF details 12 example colourways you could use in Stylecraft Special DK.
The Pattern PDFs include 5 easy-to-read charts (with X’s for DCs) for each pattern and corresponding written instructions.
For the normal mosaic crochet version, using Stylecraft Special DK, you will need:
- Colour A - 5 skeins
- Colour B - 5 skeins
- 3-row Double Border - 2 skeins
For the mosaic tapestry version, using Stylecraft Special DK, you will need:
- Colour A - 5 skeins
- Colour B1 - 2 skeins
- Colour B2 - 2 skeins
- Colour B3 - 2 skeins
- Colour B4 - 2 skeins
- 3-row Double Border - 2 skeins
Within the Mosaic Tapestry Crochet pattern, you will see that I have designed my charts and written instructions for this mosaic tapestry version to simplify the technique for you, indicating precisely when to change colours.
Please note that this approach is specific to my designs, as other designers might have different methods.
The pattern links to a tutorial video on mosaic tapestry crochet, and it’s a good idea to crochet this first if you are new to mosaic tapestry.
