Bouclé Stitch Curlicue Scarf
This scarf came about after my daughter hand painted some wool top for me, which I then spun into a 4ply/double knitting yarn. I wanted to create a reversible linen stitch that had texture on both sides and had the woven look of linen stitch on both sides.
I invented, or probably rediscovered the ‘bouclé stitch’ which is perfect for knitting scarves in self striping yarns as it makes the colours blend and pop.
I haven’t written a full pattern, but I have given instructions for working out your own so that you can use whatever yarn you like.
It is knitted sideways on long circular needles and I provide a formula for working out how many stitches to cast on, so you can make it as long, or as short as you like.
It might also make a great ‘stash buster’ project if you work every row in a different colour and then tie off your yarn ends to create tassels.
My scarf uses exactly 100g of 4ply/double knitting hand spun yarn. It is however a child’s scarf. If you are making an adult’s scarf in a heavier weight, you would need significantly more.
