These socks were designed for Supersock World Championship 2024.

These socks were inspired by Boudicca who was a Celtic queen of the ancient British Iceni tribe. She led a failed uprising against the conquering forces of the Roman Empire in CE 60 or 61. The intertwining cables, X O, down the front of the sock represent her love for her husband-king, her daughters, and her tribe. The arrow shaped lace on the back of the leg is like the tips of the spears she used as she fought the Roman soldiers on horseback and in a horse-drawn carriage. I feel she showed incredible courage in a man’s world as she fought the tyranny of an invading, colonizing force and today, she is considered a British national heroine and a symbol of the struggle for justice and independence.

These socks have plump cables running down the front of the sock from the top of the leg to the start of the toe. The back of the leg has a lace panel, flanked by simple faux-cables.

The sizes are Adult S (M, L) Leg/Foot Circumference: 7 (8, 9)“/ 18 (20, 23) cm; fits Leg/Foot circumference of 8 (9, 10)”/ 20 (23, 25) cm. Leg and foot length are adjustable to fit.

Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle, and cable needle.

Some people knit cables more tightly than stocking stitch. As a result, one size up from gauge needles may be required.

Any fingering weight sock yarn will do but the best ones for these socks are solid, tonal, or lightly speckled. Variegated yarns could obscure the cables. The sample socks were knit using YvieKnits Sock 2, 365m/115g or 400 yds/4 oz.
