Ch-1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a st.
Keep your tension fairly tight to minimize gaps.
A finished bow tie measures about 3.75” x 2.25”.
Because the bow tie starts with fsc and ends with regular sc, one side tends to look a little bigger than the other. I found that using a G hook for the first row helped a bit, but you might also want to block the finished bow tie to even things out.
Projects made in sc tend to curl up at the edges. If your bow tie doesn’t like to lie flat, try blocking it or starching it.
