Approx 64-in x 17-in
(Longer version approx 75-80”)

This is a versatile pattern! You could do less sequence rows and make a scarf! You could add more, and make an Afghan or blanket! Have fun!

Supplies

US J-10/6.00 mm
Caron big cake, 10.5 oz, 300g, 603 yd, 551 m, approx 13 oz/750-1000 yd total

Gauge is not crucial in a shawl, but you do want to be able to wrap it around your shoulders and have it fit. It would be quite disappointing if it turned out to fit your 12-year-old! I crochet loosely. If you are a tight crocheter, I would recommend going up a hook size. Here is my gauge=11 DC x 5 rows=4”

Stitches You need to know
FHDC, foundation half double crochet
SC
DC
Crochet in third and front loop= Crocheting in third and front loop, or back and 3rd loop=Crochet in back and third loop (insert your hook into back loop, tilt your work toward you and you will see on the back side of your work a smaller half bar/loop underneath. Insert your hook into that stitch as well. This gives your stitch a little bit more stability than using back loop only. The third and front loop will be on the front side of your work. So tilt your work away from you to see the small bar beneath the front loop. Insert your hook into the third loop first and up into the front loop and crochet your stitch.)
HDC
Optional standing DC. In looking for a YouTube example to share here, I have decided I prefer the stacked single crochet. Turn your work, do not chain one, do a single crochet in the first stitch, insert your hook into the legs of that single crochet and work another single crochet. This is optional. You may do a traditional chain 3 for your first DC, a CH2 and DC in the first stitch or any method you choose.
