Boxes in Boxes is a simple washcloth or dishcloth pattern, easily knit by beginners. The texture added by the box and garter stitch section gives it a bit of scrubbing power without being harsh on your skin or fragile dishes - I love mine for washing fine china and crystal! Knit in a softer cotton such as Dishie, it’s also wonderful on sensitive skin.

Yarn – Approximately 2 oz (50 gr) of worsted weight cotton yarn. A heavy worsted weight will yield a larger and denser cloth, while a light worsted will yield a smaller and softer version.

Needle – US 6 (4mm), 7 (4.5mm), or 8 (5 mm) needles. Choose the size that matches your yarn choice best.

Gauge:
Gauge doesn’t matter much so long as you are getting a fabric that you like. Mine was about 4.5 stitches per inch on size 8 needles (heavy worsted such as Sugar & Cream), 5.5 stitches on size 7(medium worsted such as I Love This Cotton), and 6.5 stitches on size 6 (light worsted such as Dishie). Please remember that 100% cotton will shrink - your cloth will get slightly smaller and denser with use.

The photos demonstrate the difference between light worsted (solid blue) and heavy worsted (blue/white).
