I have been knitting children’s sweaters for years; but, unfortunately, I end up with many more sweaters for girls than for boys. Sadly, the truth is that the patterns for girls are more varied and interesting. My friends, (both mothers and grandmothers) who have boys always complain that they cannot come across patterns that excite their toddlers. So when I made the racecar sweater for a recent gift, I got so many requests for a sweater. Instead of knitting sweaters to satisfy these requests, I decided to write up the pattern, and then help my friends to knit it themselves. “Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day; teach him to fish, and he eats forever.”
Some of my friends really took to knitting, and have even completed the project. So I am now publishing the pattern. You will get a PDF file which will have instructions for both the racecar and the taxi cab. It is knit is a worsted weight, and knits up quickly. I used a washable wool, so it can be easily cared for, yet it is warm and rich to the feel. It can also be knit in a worsted weight acrylic for easy care. It is perfect for out doors in spring and fall, or under a coat during the colder winter months. There is an easy to follow chart for the racecar and the taxi motifs, and there are simple to follow written instructions, as well. It is a perfect back to school sweater, and a great gift for the holidays. Even the rough and active boy will get a great kick out of this sweater.
