This is the first of a series of cowl designs that will focus on the beauty of the “Braid” effect. Simple, classic and elegant, braids are a timeless technique that looks impressive and adds a real statement to your look.
The second is also now published BIG Braid
A nautical version is also available Ahoy
While the look appears complicated it is actually not.The cowl starts with knitting in the round, then divides to create the braid strips, which are knit flat (there is a photo tutorial on braiding the strips) and then returns to knitting in the round. One end tucks into the other and then buttons are sewn through the layers (no buttonholes) for a decorative finish. Or, if you prefer not to have buttons then you can simply seam the back together using whichever method you prefer.
