Braided Cable Shrug
Bolero, shrug, whatever you call it, it’s SO GOOD! Chunky, squishy and super chic. It’s similar to a capelet, with a chunky ribbed neckband and killer cables that flair out over your shoulders ending in three quarter length sleeves and the option to make them longer.
I kept the sleeves a shorter length on this piece because I am ALWAYS pushing up my sleeves and those chunky sleeves don’t always like to stay up, so just knit the sleeves shorter, and add a quick decrease round for good measure and viola, saggy sleeve crisis averted. Lol!
Needles: US 17 (12 mm) and US 15 (10 mm)16” circular needles. You may also use straight needles if you prefer these for knitting the flat sections. I knit the entire piece on circulars.
Gauge: 14 sts across x 12 rows knit 2x2 rib with size US 15 needles = 4” (10.16 cm)
Yarn: Lion Brand Thick & Quick ReSpun, bulky #6. Alternates: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick, Malabrigo Rasta, or similar yarn that comes close to gauge.
Approximate yardage: 300 yards

One Adult Size: By knitting just the sleeves and a neckband without a back or front allows this shrug to fit a variety of body sizes, and you can further customize the fit by knitting the sleeves shorter or longer. If you have large upper arms or are blessed with a large chest, only seam the sleeves up to the elbow. For smaller arms, sew further up the arm.
Approximate measurements unblocked from top of neckline/shoulder to cuff: 22” length x 14” width (widest part of sleeve) / 56 cm length x 35.5 cm width. Cuff: 3” (7.6 cm)
