This pattern was designed to be extremely stretchy and the included 2 sizes, Small (18 - 21” head circumference) and Large (21.5 - 23”+ head circumference) can fit everyone from a toddler to an adult.

Make in a solid color to emphasize the sculptured braid or use 2 or 3 colors for a sporty look.

This comprehensive photo tutorial pattern (20 pages, 150+ photos, 16.21MB) has close up in-process photos of every step. You’ll also receive a supplement for chainless foundation rows (5 pages, 43 photos, 4.14MB). You will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader or PDF-XChange to view the files.

Materials:

  • worsted, 1x 100g skein (a lighter worsted, not an aran). Size small uses about 100 yards, large uses about 120 yards.
  • 5.0mm hook
  • Yarn needle

You need the following skills:

  • chain
  • slip stitch
  • single crochet
  • half double crochet
  • double crochet
  • half triple crochet
  • triple crochet
  • identifying specific loops
  • controlling tension
  • accuracy & attention to detail

It’s helpful if you are familiar with chainless foundation rows and i-cord but not necessary, full instructions are included.

Also included in this pattern is a quicker version (pink, cream & gray in the photos) which is easier, lighter weight and ideal for using alternating colors.

Although this pattern uses many stitches and techniques, everything is covered in great detail and is suitable for an intermediate crocheter. An adventurous advanced beginner who has mastered the required skills may be able to do it but could find it challenging. More important than a specific experience level is patience and the ability to follow instructions.
