Braids for Days
Braids for Days is an infinity-style cowl using one skein of
fingering weight yarn.
The horizontal braid stitch adds texture and pops against the stockinette background. Knit the cowl in the round, a tube. The stockinette side is always facing out.
This project is suitable for advanced beginners; it’s knit in the round with no shaping.
Learn the braid stitch and level up with a provisional cast on
and 3 needle bind off.
This project is ideal for Assigned Pooling yarn. Look for yarn
with 2 colors – the main color should fill about 75% of the
hank, and the contrast color the remaining 25%. You might find an indie dyed yarn with 8-12” pops of bright color. Look for high contrast between the main color and the contrast color.
TECHNIQUES USED
This is an Advanced Beginner pattern.
The cowl starts with a provisional cast on, joined in the round.
The main stitch pattern is stockinette in the round, knit every stitch, knit every round.
When the yarn color changes, change to the horizontal braid stitch. Knit a vacation round in the main color.
Join the ends of your finished tube with a three needle bind off so the seam is on the inside and invisible.
