Bread and Roses Cowl
This cowl was made with yarn from Twisted Fiber Arts “Bread and Roses” club. The yarn used for the sample in this pattern was their “Rose Garden” colorway on their Rapt base. Don’t fear if you weren’t part of their yarn-of-the-month club. Any gradient yarn will work for this pattern. I do, however, highly suggest that you try out the gradients (called Evolutions) from Twisted, especially on their Rapt base. The color changes in the gradient are subtle and even, with no sudden changes in color. And the stitch definition on the Rapt base is something to die for. If I could wrap myself entirely in Rapt, I would!
Skill Level: Beginner

Gauge:
Gauge is not particularly important for this project. If you can get the cowl over your head after the first two rounds, you’ll be fine for the rest of the pattern. The cowl is intended to fit loosely and will run long so it bunches up when worn. You can adjust the length and width of the pattern to suit your tastes by adding or removing stitches from the foundation (first) row, and by adjusting how many rounds you crochet. I purposely made this cowl long so that it would show off all of the colors in the gradient.
Abbreviations:
All crochet terms in this pattern are US terms.
st/sts Stitches
ss Slip Stitch
sc Single Crochet
ch Chain
fsc Foundation Single Crochet
dc Double Crochet
Pattern Notes:
This pattern is worked in the round without any joins after the first (foundation) round. If Foundation Single Crochet (fsc) is out of your realm, fear not. Simply follow the alternate instructions included in the pattern. This pattern is beginner ready! The Foundation Single Crochet stitch will give the cowl a stretchier opening. There are tons of great fsc tutorials available on YouTube, so give it a try!
